User Reviews about New Gray Headrest Pair 7" LCD DVD Monitors USB SD Slot Wireless Video Game Car Package

I purchased these for my Toyota Rav4 with the nervousness that I was going to get them and they would be hard to install, look stupid because I have cloth seats and these are leather, and that they would be poor quality. Much to my surprise I was impressed. The quality seems pretty good (we have only used them a handful of times), they weren't that bad to install (although you need to go through the inside of the seat for no cords show and you have a ground wire to hardwire them to) and the leather headrests don't look bad with my cloth seats (which are grey). Overall good deal for an item that will help keep my sanity on long trips. :) -- Nice option for a good price
We ordered a set of these based on the generally good reviews and the very good price. The price is outrageously low, and we knew that the durability of the headphones and remotes may be a problem, but if the DVD/screen components last for a year, it'll be worth the cost.

Feature-wise, they included a lot of very practical features including the ability to view the "internal" DVD, or the video-in, which you can easily connect to the video out of the other unit. This works in both directions out of the box: Either DVD can be viewed by both screens, or each screen can view it's own DVD. We haven't tried this, but you can load more compressed video formats onto DVD-ROMs, SD cards, or USB memory sticks. We might try loading some video onto an SD card for our 12-hour vacation ride this week.

We had some early problems with one of the screens and one of the infra-red headphones. One screen has a set of pixels, about 1/4 inch across, in the shape of a C that are "frozen". Probably about 50 pixels total, and you only notice when the scene in that area is bright white. Otherwise, they blend in. I sent a picture of the problem along with a message to Amazon, and they said they can't repair the screen, or send a replacement of just the screen, but offered full return/refund or a 30% discount. We opted for the discount, since the screen is usable and if it doesn't get worse, we're in good shape. If it gets worse and breaks completely, then the 30% is fair compensation.

The other problem is that one of the headphones stopped working completely...we haven't brought this up to Amazon yet. In general, the game controls and headphones seem pretty light-weight and vulnerable to damage, and that's probably what happened. The headphones take triple-A batteries, and if you don't turn them off after use, they betteries will probably be dead the next time you use them.

We wired the units to the same power source as the 12-V power plugs in the dashboard, so they go on with the accessory position of the key. This means you won't have DVD's running when you leave the car (and kill your battery), but the units also won't remember where you were in the movie when you turn them on again. You'll have to find your place to resume viewing.

Installation was pretty smooth, but I recommend buying some red/black 18g wire from an auto-supply or electronics store first since the leads are only a few inches long beyond the fuse block. It's easy to cross-link the video/audio in/out between the units, but you'll need to find a way to hide the wires. After the install was done, all the functions worked and the remote and buttons were easy to learn and use...as long as you know "IR" means infra-red and "FM" is used to broadcast to your vehicle's radio. Each unit can play sound through either the built-in speakers, the FM modulator through your radio, headphone channel A, or channel B. There are also a front-mounted audio/video out, that I assume you could use with wired headphones, but we haven't tried them yet. (Probably will since the one headphone broke).

Overall, we're happy with the units, and understand that these aren't perfect, but it seems that the most important component, the DVD/LCD headrest itself, is full-featured and well-built.

We have a second set on order for our second-row seats since it's hard for our kids in the 3rd row to see the front-row headrests past the second-row seats. The install here will be more challenging since the second-row seats are removable, so I'm thinking of ways to make the wiring hard to mess with during normal use, but not make it difficult to remove the seats when necessary. The challenge is that you have 4 sets of wires to deal with: power for each unit, plus the A/V in/out links that go in each direction. All of these have plug connections, but it's a lot of wires to un-hook just to remove a seat. We'll see how that turns out......

-- Great Value, Weak Accessories
I've only used this product a couple times since owning it but, so far it's done what I bought it for. Sure would be nice if they hired someone that was bilingual to do their installation instructions instead of using a generic word translator program. A little extra content in them would be nice too. On installation, if you don't know what to do with the green wires, they are just antenna wires for the rf modulator. They don't have to be connected inline or wired to the hear unit antenna for them to work. But the wires themselves are about 6' long, and the instructions lead you to believe they should be hard wired to the head unit. But they don't. -- One month and still satisfied
We recieved our shipment and took everything to Best Buy to get it installed. For the price, you can't beat the whole package. BUT the head phones were not included. Which was a bit frustrating. Amazon offered for us to return the package but we had already paid $150 for installation. They decided to send a replacement set to us. Which is why we are so faithful to Amazon. Easy shopping and dependable. All and all, the kids love it. There are a lot of great features on it. They will play the same video, or play independent of each other. They will resume play when the power gets cut... great buy -- All is not included
I was skeptic buying these as they were pretty cheap for two complete headrest dvd players, but they are actually pretty nice! I like that they have a video in/out that you can connect up to each other to let either dvd system be the master and the other act as the slave. Headphones are nice, maybe a bit flimsy. Game system is pretty poor, as are the controllers but I expected that. The only thing I ran into was the posts do not get close enough toghether to fit our 2002 Odyssey seats so I had to make an adapter system to get them to work. Overall, its going to be a great option for long trips as my kids do not like to always watch the same movie! -- Great for the money
